This shrub requires moist/wet soil and lots of sunshine, though it will tolerate light shade. It is well known for its berries that can be made into jams or pies once cooked. The berries can be harmful if eaten raw. Good for large, low areas in the garden or yard. Spreads by suckers that make it great for naturalizing large areas. If you wish for a more contained specimen, prune suckers as they appear.
