Please note: Plum trees create additional shoots quickly that spread from the base of the tree. Check back and thin after several months if planting in a small area.
This is a fast-growing tree with a shrubby form that reaches 10-25 feet in height. It produces edible fruit which is excellent for making jam, jelly, and pies. It has great ornamental value, as it blooms in mid-spring with fragrant, showy, white flowers that attract various pollinators including the Red-spotted Purple butterfly (Limenitis arthemis astyanax) and many moths and birds including Baltimore Orioles. Juglone tolerant and can be used in large rain gardens and for erosion control.
*Please note that although wild plum fruit is edible, the leaves and plum stones are toxic and should not be consumed.
**The trees can be thorny. This varies considerably between individuals, but most do have short sharp spurs.
**We would recommend purchasing more than one tree for best fruit crop production.
