This rare tree has extremely vibrant fall colours in shades of red, orange, yellow, and purple. It attracts bees with nectar, and birds and wildlife with its fruit. This tree is dioecious, which means a separate male and female tree is required for pollination.
Black Gum prefers moist and acidic soils but is not picky with soil type. It can also tolerate drought and dry soils in the wild but is typically found on stream edges and wet areas.
