Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana) is an attractive, dense, evergreen conifer with horizontal branching. Gray to red-brown bark is shed in strips on mature trees. Its foliage is dark blue-green and may turn brown-green in winter. This tree is a dioecious species (separate male and female trees). Female trees produce gray to black-green berry-like cones that ripen and fall. These cones are a food source for many bird species.
