A small and compact, branching shrub that is fairly easy to grow and care for. It enjoys well drained moderate to moist loam or sandy loam soils; however it can tolerate some drought. This shrub is known for its long-lasting, dense, yellow flowers, which bloom from summer to early fall and for as long as 2-3 months. These flowers attract bees, wasps, and flies.
Its green leaves are arranged in groups of five which is what gave rise to the name "cinquefoil" from which "cinq" means five and "foil" means leaf. Great as a garden hedge or border. To keep the shrub's dense rounded form, prune back in winter or early spring.
