A low growing perennial that roots at the nodes of runners and forms a mat. Its lavender, trumpet shaped flowers, which grow upright at leaf axils, attract bees from June to July. The fragrant leaves smell like mint.
Calamint thrives in well-draining, sandy soils in full sun. It is naturally found in wet meadows, rocky stream shores, and prairies. This species makes a great addition to a rock garden, perennial bed border, or open woodland planting.
