Tree in 2 x 5 inch coco fibre plug

Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis) is considered to have once been native to the southernmost part of Ontario. Though no natural areas have currently been found it is still a popular choice for landscaping gardens as far north as Toronto. It has a short trunk and a rounded crown with spreading branches. Its unique heart shaped leaves and vibrant pink spring blossoms make it a very attractive tree. This tree prefers medium to moist soil and lightly shaded locations. It does not tolerate standing water. The flowers and seeds are edible.

To see beautiful mature Redbuds in Hamilton, visit the trail on Princess Point in the spring (Royal Botanical Gardens property).
