With some light maintenance, enjoy an abundance of sweet berries from this shrub. In early spring, prune any damaged stems from the winter and thin them out if necessary. In summer, prune the fruiting stems after fruiting to control the size. Red Raspberry (Rubus idaeus ssp. strigosus) grows best in organically rich and moist soil with some light shade. Water at soil level as overhead watering can lead to powdery mildew on the leaves.
