Great St. John’s Wort (Hypericum ascyron) is easy to grow, and is one of the largest and most showy species of St. John's Wort. We sell the shrub Shrubby St. John's Wort which is also in the Hypericum family. However, Hypericum ascyron is a herbaceous perennial. Its tall stature, and unique yellow flowers make it difficult to overlook. Found naturally in floodplains, marshes, meadows, and fields, and along river and lake shores, this plant prefers moist soil and would do well in a rain garden. Once it is established, it can withstand drought-like conditions. Having a relatively short blooming period of about 2-3 weeks during mid summer, this plant attracts bees and other insects.
