Running Strawberry Bush (Euonymus obovatus) is a fast growing ground covering plant, and is noteworthy for its ornamental fruits and vibrant fall colour. In late spring and early summer, tiny pale green flowers appear with 5 clawed petals. These petals are replaced by showy seed capsules that mature in the fall and become pinkish-red. The berries are attractive to birds and smaller mammals, yet all parts of the plant are poisonous to humans. Naturally, this shrub occurs on wooded slopes, low sandy woods, and streambanks. Great for woodland gardens and performs best in part shade with dry to moist and well draining soil.
