Description
Tall and resilient prairie perennial. Grows well with full sun in moderate to moist average soil. Can tolerate some periodic flooding and will grow taller with moist conditions. Stiff leafy stems that branch near the top into dense, fluffy, magenta flowers blooming from late summer to early fall. A late season nectar source for butterflies and bees. Remove flower heads before seed develops to avoid self seeding.
Stems can be cut back in spring to reduce size. Watch out for spreading by rhizomes underground. A great addition to your prairie or meadow garden at the back or border.
