Description
Are you looking for a nice ground cover for your shady moist conditions? Bunchberry (Cornus canadensis), also known as Creeping Dogwood, is a semi-evergreen shrub. It has beautiful star-shaped blooms which are creamy white in colour and appear in late spring to early summer. Red, clustered berries that appear in the fall attract various birds. Although Bunchberry berries are edible, they are not a popular choice due to the large seed they contain. Please note that this shrub prefers acidic soil and partial shade, making the area under evergreen trees a great home for these petite plants. Soil acidity can be increased with compost or pine needles.
