Are you looking for a nice ground cover for your shady moist conditions? Bunchberry (Cornus canadensis), also known as creeping dogwood, is a semi-evergreen shrub. It has beautiful star-shaped blooms which are white-creamy in colour and appear in late spring to early summer. Red clustered berries that appear in the fall attract various birds. Although Bunchberry berries are edible, they are not a popular choice due to the large seed they contain. Please note that this shrub prefers acidic soil and partial shade, making the area under evergreen trees a great home for these petite plants. Soil acidity can be increased with compost, peat moss, or pine needles.
