Description
One of the most shade tolerant native grasses! Can tolerate dry shade or full sun with adequate moisture, but will do best in part shade with moist, well drained soil. Long green inflorescences emerge on three feet tall stems in summer resembling bottle brushes.
Cool season perennial that will start growing in spring. Works well in a woodland garden or partly shaded rain garden. Also, a great low maintenance accent or border plant.
Species name comes from the Greek hystrix meaning hedgehog, which describes the bottlebrush inflorescence quite well.
