Description

Milkweed is an essential plant for the Monarch butterfly’s survival. It is the only plant the caterpillar is able to live off of and create its intricate chrysalis upon. In the spring and early summer, look for caterpillars on your plant who’ve hitched a ride to their new home. It also supports many other insects including bees and ladybugs. A great choice for aquatic gardens in full sun, growing in a wide range of moist soils. Pretty pink blooms occur mid-summer. In the fall, large pods form which later open up with seeds that lightly float away in the wind.
